What is Show Choir?

Long & McQuade play graphic

Show Choir is a performance-based vocal ensemble program for students who love to sing and want to perform with others. Students rehearse weekly in a group setting, learn ensemble songs, build vocal confidence, and prepare for live performance opportunities.

Each group works with a coach who helps students improve their singing, listening, stage presence, movement, teamwork, and musical expression

From learning your part in a vocal arrangement to performing on stage, Show Choir gives students a complete group singing experience. It is a strong next step for singers who are ready to move beyond private voice lessons and perform with others.

Voice Students Ready for More

Private voice lessons help students build strong vocal technique. Show Choir gives students a place to apply those skills through ensemble singing, harmonies, movement, and stage performance.

Students who want Solo & Group Opportunities

Students perform as part of a full vocal ensemble, with opportunities for solos, duets, and smaller group features in the final show. This gives each student room to grow while still being supported by the full group.

Final Show Performance

Show Choir students work toward a final performance where the group performs for family, friends, and the Long & McQuade Richmond Hill community.

Performance Goals

Each group prepares ensemble pieces, with opportunities for solos, duets, and smaller group performances. This gives students a clear goal, a reason to practise, and a chance to show their progress and shine on stage.

Music Hall Experience

The final show takes place in our 200+ seat Music Hall, giving students a real performance experience in a professional setting.

Rehearsal Structure

Show Choir rehearsals follow a clear weekly structure. This helps students stay focused, track progress, and build confidence as vocal performers.

Weekly Rehearsals

Rehearsals include physical and vocal warmups, music rehearsal, choreography and workshop opportunities.

Focused Vocal Growth

Students work on pitch, rhythm, diction, tone, blend, breath support, expression, movement, and performance skills. Each rehearsal helps the group move closer to a polished final show.

Coach-Led Progress

Each Show Choir group works with a coach who guides the rehearsal, gives feedback, and helps students understand how their individual voice supports the full ensemble.

Repertoire & Themes

Show Choir explores a wide range of music, including pop, musical theatre, movie songs, and other performance-focused styles. Repertoire is selected to help students build vocal skill, stage confidence, and ensemble awareness.

Music With a Performance Goal

Each song gives students a chance to work on expression, harmony, movement, storytelling, and audience connection. Students learn how different genres use voice, staging, and emotion to create a stronger performance.
